Roamless eSIM Review UK: Is One Pay-As-You-Go Global eSIM Worth It?
Roamless reviewed for UK travellers: how its single global eSIM, pay-as-you-go credit, data plans and Unlimited plans compare, what a week in Spain costs, the US$5 referral credit, the expiry and refund small print, what users complain about and who should skip it.

Best for
UK travellers with an unlocked, eSIM-capable phone who take several trips a year, often to more than one country, and want one data eSIM they install once and top up as they go.
Worth it if you want one eSIM for every trip and dislike buying a new bundle for each country: pay-as-you-go credit works in more than 200 destinations, at US$1.95 per GB in the UK, US and much of Europe. Our code makes the first trip cheap. A US$5 purchase plus the US$5 referral credit gives about 5.1GB in Spain, against US$8.95 for a 5GB plan. After that, a data plan is cheaper per GB if you will use a lot of data in one country, and pay as you go costs more in parts of Asia. Mind the small print: you pay in US dollars, refunds are only for phones that can't take an eSIM, and the terms let Roamless cancel its "never expiring" credit after 12 months of inactivity. If your UK plan already includes roaming where you are going, you may not need it at all.
Pros
- One data eSIM for 200+ destinations: install it once, switch it on for each trip, and move it to a new phone for free
- Pay-as-you-go credit is charged per MB, from US$1.95 per GB in the UK, US and much of Europe, with no expiry date
- Data plans and Unlimited plans start at your first KB of use at the destination, so you can buy before you fly
- Hotspot is allowed with no separate limit
- Our code turns a US$5 first purchase into US$10 of credit, about 5.1GB in Spain
- Free to install, with US$1.25 of starter credit (up to 500MB, Roamless says) to test it
Watch-outs
- Priced and charged only in US dollars, so your card's fee on non-sterling payments can apply; no PayPal
- Refunds only if your phone has no eSIM or is carrier-locked; used credit and started plans aren't refunded
- The terms let Roamless cancel "never expiring" credit after 12 months of inactivity
- Referral credit can't buy data plans or Unlimited plans, and can't be combined with a promo code
- Data only: a number for calls and texts is an extra US$6.95 a month, with no refunds
- Pay as you go costs more in parts of Asia (US$2.45 per GB in Japan, US$2.95 in Hong Kong), and some users report slow or dropping data

What Roamless is
Roamless sells a single, data-only travel eSIM: a digital SIM profile you install once and switch on whenever you travel. It works in more than 200 destinations, connecting to a local partner network wherever you are, and the eSIM itself never expires. Your balance sits in your Roamless account rather than on the eSIM, so you can delete it, reinstall it or move it to a new phone without losing anything.
It is run by Roamless Technologies Inc., a company registered in Delaware, United States. Its terms (last updated 2 April 2026) are governed by Delaware law and send disputes to binding individual arbitration with a class-action waiver; you can opt out of arbitration by letter within 30 days of accepting them. Roamless caps its liability at what you paid it in the six months before the problem arose, although the terms say some of these limits may not apply where your local law gives you more rights.
Roamless doesn't name a telecoms regulator or any protection for the money in your account. What you hold is prepaid credit that can't be exchanged for cash, so top up for the trips you are planning rather than far ahead.
Pay as you go, data plans or Unlimited
There are three ways to pay, all on the same eSIM and all priced in US dollars. Pay-as-you-go credit works in every Roamless destination and is used up per MB at that country's rate. On 13 October 2026 that was US$1.95 per GB in the UK, US, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Ireland, Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia; US$2.45 in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, mainland China, Macau and Canada; and US$2.95 in Hong Kong. An older Roamless help article and its Google Play listing still quote higher rates, so check the destination page or the app before you top up.
Data plans give a fixed amount of data for one country or region, valid for 30 days from the first KB you use there, so you can buy at home. Examples: 5GB for US$8.95 or 10GB for US$13.95 in Spain, 3GB for US$8.95 or 10GB for US$18.95 in the UK, 5GB for US$9.95 in Japan, and 5GB for US$17.95 across the Europe region. A plan only works in its own destination; anywhere else, your credit takes over.
Unlimited plans cover one country or region for a set number of days, up to 90 in Spain and the UK (fewer in some destinations), with 3GB a day at full speed and then 1 Mbps until the daily reset, at no extra charge. Spain costs US$3.84 for one day, US$10.80 for three and US$23.10 for seven; the UK is US$25.62 for seven days. They don't renew automatically. Credit can't pay for a data plan or an Unlimited plan: each needs a fresh payment.
What a week in Spain costs
Take a seven-day trip to Spain using about 5GB. Pay as you go at US$1.95 per GB comes to US$9.75; the 5GB data plan is US$8.95; seven days of Unlimited is US$23.10, which only makes sense if you will use far more than 5GB. At the Bank of England's rate of US$1.3220 to the pound on 12 October 2026, that is about £7.38, £6.77 and £17.47, before any fee your card adds for paying in dollars.
On a first purchase, our code changes the sums. Buy US$5 of credit (about £3.78) and the US$5 referral credit takes you to US$10, about 5.1GB at Spain's rate, with anything you don't use left in your account for the next trip (subject to the inactivity rule below). Or make the 5GB plan your qualifying purchase: US$8.95 then gets you the plan plus about 2.6GB of credit. Either way the referral credit is spent at the pay-as-you-go rate, because credit can't buy plans.
After the first trip the gap narrows. In Spain the 5GB plan saves just 80 cents over pay as you go, while the 10GB plan at US$13.95 works out at US$1.40 per GB, so plans pay off when you know you will use most of a bigger bundle in one country. Pay as you go suits short stays, several countries in one trip, or the odd day of data, where you would otherwise waste most of a bundle.
The US$5 referral credit
Install Roamless through our link, create a new account and enter code in the app. Then, within 30 days of signing up, buy at least US$5 of pay-as-you-go credit or a data plan. Once you do, Roamless adds US$5 of credit to your account. Roamless says referral credit doesn't expire: it joins your pay-as-you-go balance and pays for data in any destination, at that destination's rate.
The conditions: invite codes can only be entered within 30 days of creating your account, and the code goes in before the purchase. Referral and promo codes can't be combined on one purchase, so don't put a discount code on the purchase you want to count; if you already have, a further purchase of US$5 or more within 30 days of signing up still qualifies. Once entered, the code is tied to your account and device, and can't be entered again on that device under another account. The credit can't pay for data plans or Unlimited plans, and it isn't cash. Roamless publishes no end date for the offer.
New users also get US$1.25 of starter credit when they first activate the eSIM, once per account or device, which Roamless describes as up to 500MB. Roamless doesn't say whether it comes on top of the referral credit, so we haven't counted it.
Disclosure: JIMMYQZD is GetQuids' own code, so we receive US$5 of Roamless credit too when you qualify.
Which balance goes first, and what expires
When you hold more than one kind of balance, the eSIM spends whatever is valid where you are in a fixed order: rewards first, then an Unlimited plan, then a data plan, then your credit. Buying an Unlimited plan for a country where a data plan is running switches you to Unlimited straight away, but the data plan's 30 days keep counting, so use the plan up first.
Roamless markets its credit as never expiring, and the help centre says the same. Its terms add a catch: credit becomes inactive "after twelve (12) months of inactivity", after which Roamless may cancel it without a refund. If you travel less than once a year, don't leave a large balance sitting there. Deleting your account also deletes all your credit, plans and rewards.
Promotional rewards from codes last 30 to 180 days depending on the code, or six months under the terms if no period is stated. Data plans run for 30 days from first use. On when an unused plan lapses, the help centre says 18 months from purchase in one place and 12 months in another, so plan to start it within 12 months.
Will it work on your phone?
You need an eSIM-capable phone that isn't carrier-locked. On an iPhone, check Settings > General > About > Carrier Lock: "SIM Locked" means the eSIM won't install until your network unlocks the phone, and Roamless only refunds a purchase in that case if the lock can't be removed. Tablets, Android-based portable routers and eSIM adapters work; the Apple Watch doesn't.
If your phone can only run one eSIM at a time and your UK line is already an eSIM, Roamless notes that you would have to turn your UK line off to use it. With a physical UK SIM, you can keep both switched on.
Install it at home on Wi-Fi, so you know it works before you fly. Then set Roamless as your mobile data line, turn on data roaming for the Roamless line and check the APN reads "roamless". Turn data roaming off on your UK line so it can't run up roaming charges. Roamless also suggests Low Data Mode on its line (Data Saver on Android), so background updates and backups don't eat your credit. Don't type a phone number into the eSIM's settings, and don't convert your UK SIM to an eSIM by mistake: Roamless warns that both cause problems.
Changing phones is free and unlimited: delete the eSIM from the old phone and reinstall it from the app on the new one. Don't use the iPhone's own Transfer eSIM option. If you have lost the old phone, ask support for a new eSIM.
Networks, speed, hotspot and mainland China
Roamless uses local partner networks: Vodafone, O2 and Three in the UK; Verizon and AT&T in the US; KDDI and SoftBank in Japan; China Unicom in mainland China. It offers 4G and 5G in most destinations, but some places get only 4G or 3G, and 5G depends on the local network where you are.
We haven't run our own speed tests. Speed comes from the local network, and the app reviews below show it varies: some users report slow or dropping data despite full signal. If you are moving to Britain, the same eSIM works here at US$1.95 per GB, which can tide you over until you have a UK SIM.
Hotspot is allowed without limits: you can share your connection with as many devices as you like. On Unlimited plans, tethering comes out of the same 3GB a day at full speed.
For mainland China, Roamless says its data is routed through its international network rather than a local Chinese SIM, so apps such as WhatsApp, Google and Gmail work without a VPN. That is the provider's own claim, which we haven't tested. Roamless advises installing the eSIM before you go, as app stores can be restricted in China. Pay as you go costs US$2.45 per GB there.
Calls, texts and your UK number
The eSIM is data only: it has no phone number and can't make calls or send texts. Your UK number stays on your own SIM and isn't affected; what that line costs abroad depends on your UK network.
In the app you can call any number using your credit, from US$0.01 a minute depending on the number you dial, over Wi-Fi or any data connection. Data plans and Unlimited plans can't pay for calls, so you need some credit.
Roamless Numbers are a separate subscription: a second number with a US, Canadian, UK (+44) or Australian prefix, used inside the Roamless app for calls and texts over data. It costs US$6.95 a month or US$59.95 a year, renews automatically until you cancel, and isn't refundable. Roamless says the numbers can receive one-time passcodes, for example to register on WhatsApp. We haven't checked whether UK banks will send codes to one, so keep your bank's security codes on your own number.
Paying, refunds and closing your account
Roamless charges in US dollars only, so your card issuer converts the price and adds any fee it charges on non-sterling payments, even though you are buying from home. It accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay, but not PayPal. The website's minimum purchase is US$1. Check the total on the purchase summary before you pay.
Auto Top Up, if you turn it on, adds your chosen amount whenever your credit falls below US$5. If your credit is already under US$5 when you switch it on, it charges straight away, even if you have an active plan.
Refunds are narrow. Roamless refunds a purchase only if your phone has no eSIM, or is carrier-locked and can't be unlocked, which you show with screenshots in an in-app ticket; refunds take 5 to 10 business days to reach your card. Once you have used any credit, the rest isn't refunded, although you can transfer it to another Roamless account, and the unused part of a started data plan isn't refunded either. The terms say all transactions are final unless the law requires otherwise.
Support is by live chat on the website and in the app, which starts with a bot and can pass you to a person, and by email. To leave, go to Profile > Account Settings > Delete Account. It is permanent: your credit, plans and rewards go with it, and the eSIM stops working. Deleting just the app doesn't affect your account.
What users complain about
On 13 October 2026 the Roamless app was rated 4.8 from 3,163 ratings on the UK App Store (4.8 from 5,837 in the US) and 4.7 from about 3,600 ratings on Google Play in the UK, which lists more than 500,000 downloads. Trustpilot gave it 4.5 from 1,785 reviews: 77% five stars and 7% one star, with Roamless replying to 68% of negative reviews.
UK and US App Store reviews return to a few complaints: slow or dropping data despite full signal, reported in places such as Australia and Malaysia; data running out faster than expected; prices above a local SIM; and support that is hard to reach when your data isn't working. The praise is just as consistent: easy set-up, one eSIM across several countries, cheaper than roaming, and helpful customer service.
Who should use it, and who should skip it
Use it if you travel several times a year, especially to more than one country per trip; if you dislike losing leftover data from a fixed bundle; if you want an eSIM installed and tested before you leave; or if you are heading to the UK, US or Western Europe, where pay as you go is at its cheapest.
Skip it if your UK plan already includes roaming where you are going; if your phone is locked or has no eSIM; if you travel less than once a year and would leave credit sitting idle; if you need a local number for calls; or if you would rather pay in pounds. For one long stay in one country, compare a Roamless data plan with a fixed bundle such as Airalo's, or with a local SIM.
FAQ
- What is the Roamless referral code?
- JIMMYQZD. Enter it in the app within 30 days of creating your account, then buy at least US$5 of credit or a data plan within 30 days of signing up, and you get US$5 of credit. It is GetQuids' own code, so we receive US$5 of credit too.
- Does Roamless credit expire?
- Roamless says bought, starter and referral credit don't expire, but its terms let it cancel credit after 12 months of inactivity, and deleting your account deletes it. Data plans last 30 days from first use; Unlimited plans last the days you bought.
- Can I use the referral credit to buy a data plan?
- No. Credit, including the referral credit, can't buy data plans or Unlimited plans. It pays for data at each destination's pay-as-you-go rate, from US$1.95 per GB.
- Does Roamless give me a phone number?
- No. The eSIM is data only, and your UK number stays on your own SIM. Roamless Numbers are a separate subscription at US$6.95 a month or US$59.95 a year, used in the Roamless app, with no refunds.
- Can I use it as a hotspot?
- Yes, without limits. On Unlimited plans, hotspot use counts towards the 3GB a day at full speed, after which the speed drops to 1 Mbps.
- Will Roamless work on my phone?
- Only if it supports eSIM and isn't carrier-locked. On an iPhone, Settings > General > About > Carrier Lock shouldn't say "SIM Locked". The Apple Watch isn't supported.
- Can I get a refund?
- Only if your phone has no eSIM, or is carrier-locked and can't be unlocked. Used credit and the unused part of a started data plan aren't refunded. Refunds take 5 to 10 business days.
- Will I pay a fee for paying in dollars?
- Roamless charges only in US dollars, so if your card adds a fee on non-sterling payments, it applies here even though you are buying from home.
