Club Lloyds Review: Is the £200 Switch Bonus Worth It?

Club Lloyds, Club Lloyds Silver, Club Lloyds Platinum and Lloyds Premier reviewed: the £200 switch bonus and every condition, the monthly fees and how to avoid them, what the interest, savings and perks are really worth, the insurance, the app and who should skip it.

Last updated 11 October 2026

Best for

People who haven't had a Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland switch bonus since 1 January 2023, have a current account at another bank with at least three Direct Debits paid in the last 13 months, and can pay £2,000 a month into Club Lloyds so its £5 fee is refunded.

Worth doing if you are eligible. The conditions are light: a full switch with three active Direct Debits, with no pay-in or card-spending task for the bonus, and the £200 arrives within 14 working days of the switch starting. Choose plain Club Lloyds unless you want the insurance: it costs nothing in any month you pay in £2,000, and even if you don't, a year of £5 fees still leaves £140 of the bonus. The extras are real but smaller than the headlines suggest. The 3.00% interest only applies to the part of your balance between £4,000 and £5,000, so £5,000 earns about £60 a year. Club Lloyds Silver (£138 a year) and Platinum (£270) only pay off if you would otherwise buy the same travel, breakdown and phone cover. The real catch is eligibility: anyone who has had a Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland switch bonus since 2023 is out.

Pros

  • £200 for a full switch with three active Direct Debits, with no pay-in or card-spending task for the bonus
  • Paid within 14 working days of the switch starting
  • Club Lloyds' £5 monthly fee is refunded in any month you pay in £2,000 or more
  • No Lloyds fees on debit card spending or cash withdrawals abroad on all four qualifying accounts
  • Access to the Club Lloyds Monthly Saver at 6.25% AER fixed on £25 to £250 a month
  • Existing Lloyds customers qualify if they open a new qualifying account and switch in an account from another bank

Watch-outs

  • No bonus if you have had a Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland switching offer since 1 January 2023, or if you switch from Halifax or Bank of Scotland
  • Direct Debits must have been paid in the last 13 months; new ones, standing orders, recurring card payments and subscriptions don't count
  • £60 a year in Club fees unless you pay in £2,000 every month; Silver and Platinum cost at least £138 and £270 a year
  • The 3.00% rate only applies to the part of your balance between £4,000 and £5,000; the first £4,000 earns 0.75%
  • A full switch closes your old account, and card payments, digital wallets and overdrafts don't move with it
  • Trustpilot reviews are split: 4.0 from 13,131 reviews, but 46% are one-star, with complaints about outages, fraud blocks and phone queues

What Lloyds is

Lloyds Bank plc is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the PRA, under registration number 119278. It belongs to Lloyds Banking Group, and for this offer Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland count as one family: switching from Halifax or Bank of Scotland, or having had a switch bonus from any of the three since 1 January 2023, rules you out.

Eligible deposits are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) up to £120,000. Lloyds current accounts are provided by either Lloyds Bank plc (sort codes starting 30 or 77) or Bank of Scotland plc (sort codes starting 11), so your sort code tells you which bank holds the account.

It is a high-street bank, so as well as the app and online banking you can use a branch or phone banking. You can open an account in the app, online, in a branch or by phone. Opening is subject to Lloyds' assessment, and you must be 18 or over and live in the UK.

The four accounts that qualify

Only a new account of one of these four types gets the £200: Club Lloyds, Club Lloyds Silver, Club Lloyds Platinum or Lloyds Premier. Watch the names. The plain Silver and Platinum accounts, without "Club", are excluded, and so are Classic, Student, Smart Start, Under 19s and Basic accounts.

Club Lloyds costs £5 a month, refunded in any month you pay in £2,000 or more. Club Lloyds Silver costs £11.50 a month and Club Lloyds Platinum £22.50, each with the same £5 Club fee on top. Only the £5 can be refunded, so the least you can pay is £138 or £270 a year.

Lloyds Premier costs £15 a month, refunded in any month you pay in £5,000 or hold £100,000 of qualifying savings or investments with Lloyds (pensions don't count). You need to meet one of those tests before you can apply, and Lloyds says it checks regularly that the account still suits you. For the £5,000, any money paid in counts, including salary and transfers, but refunds don't, and the money doesn't have to stay. Premier adds a Bupa Digital Family GP and Wellbeing Subscription, which Lloyds says is worth £50 a month, plus 1% cashback on eligible debit card purchases up to £10 a month, financial coaching and 24/7 Premier support. Lloyds values the whole package at over £883 a year.

The four accounts that get the £200 compared. Monthly fee: Club Lloyds £5, Club Lloyds Silver £11.50 plus £5, Club Lloyds Platinum £22.50 plus £5, Lloyds Premier £15. Refunds: the £5 Club fee with £2,000 paid in that month; Premier's £15 with £5,000 paid in or £100,000 held. Lowest fees a year: £0, £138, £270 and £0. Credit interest with 2 Direct Debits a month: 0.75% AER up to £3,999.99 and 3.00% AER between £4,000 and £5,000 on the Club accounts, 1.50% then 3.00% on Premier. Insurance: none on Club Lloyds; European travel to age 65, AA roadside and phone on Silver; worldwide travel to age 80, AA roadside, At Home and National Recovery and phone on Platinum; none on Premier, which has a Bupa digital family GP and 1% cashback up to £10 a month. Lloyds' own values: over £133, £318 of insurance, £682 of insurance and over £883 a year. All four: no Lloyds fees abroad, one Lifestyle Benefit a year, £100 of overdraft interest-free and Club Lloyds savings.

What all four accounts give you

No Lloyds fees abroad. All four debit cards have no Lloyds fees for paying in a foreign currency or taking cash out, at home or abroad. If you choose to pay in pounds overseas, the provider of that currency conversion may still charge you, so pay in the local currency. For comparison, the Classic debit card is charged 2.99% on foreign currency transactions plus 50p a purchase or £1.50 a cash withdrawal (the fixed fees don't apply to euros in the EEA).

Interest on up to £5,000. It is paid monthly in any calendar month in which two different Direct Debits go out of the account. They must be monthly: quarterly Direct Debits and standing orders don't count, and if you miss a month you earn nothing for that month. The rate is tiered: 0.75% AER on the first £3,999.99 and 3.00% AER only on the part between £4,000 and £5,000 (Premier pays 1.50% AER on the first tier). Nothing above £5,000 earns interest, and it is paid without tax taken off.

One Lifestyle Benefit a year: 12 months of Disney+ Standard With Ads, six Vue or ODEON cinema tickets, a Coffee Club and Gourmet Society membership (25% off barista-made drinks at Caffè Nero and 25% off the bill at PizzaExpress and many independent restaurants) or a magazine subscription. You have 30 days from opening to choose, and the benefit then runs for 12 months; choose later and you only get what's left of those 12 months. There is no cash alternative, and the benefit is cancelled if the account is closed or downgraded.

Club savings. The Club Lloyds Monthly Saver pays 6.25% AER fixed on £25 to £250 a month for 12 months, with the interest paid at the end; it then becomes a Standard Saver, and you can't open one if you have opened a Monthly Saver in the last 12 months. The Club Lloyds Advantage Saver pays 3.00% AER variable if you keep withdrawals low, and 0.65% once you go over the limit. Lloyds' own pages disagree on the limit (two withdrawals in the account year on its savings page, three in 12 months on the Club Silver and Platinum pages), so check the account's terms. You need a qualifying current account to open either.

What it's worth

The bonus is the main value. On Club Lloyds with £2,000 paid in every month, the account costs nothing and the £200 is yours in full. Without the pay-in, the £5 fee costs £60 over the first year, which still leaves £140.

The extras each come with a condition. Keep £5,000 in the account all year with two Direct Debits going out every month and you earn about £60 of interest: roughly £30 at 0.75% on the first £4,000 and £30 at 3.00% on the last £1,000. That is about 1.2% overall, so spare money above what you need day to day may earn more in the Club Lloyds Advantage Saver at 3.00% AER variable, as long as you stay within its withdrawal limit. Put the maximum £250 a month into the Monthly Saver and Lloyds' own example gives £93.75 of interest after 12 months on £3,000 saved, assuming each payment goes in mid-month. Lloyds values the Lifestyle Benefit at £73 a year, which only counts if you would otherwise pay for Disney+, cinema tickets or a magazine.

Use all of it and year one comes to about £427. After that there is no bonus, and the extras are only worth what you actually use. Lloyds' own headline for Club Lloyds is benefits "worth over £133 a year".

Club Lloyds first-year value, with the £200 switch bonus. Bonus only with £2,000 or more paid in each month: £200. Bonus only with less than £2,000 paid in, after £60 of monthly fees: £140. Bonus plus extras with £2,000 paid in: about £427, made up of the £200 bonus, about £94 of Monthly Saver interest on £250 a month at 6.25% (Lloyds' own example), the Lifestyle Benefit at Lloyds' value of £73, and about £60 of interest on £5,000 kept in the current account.

The £200 switch offer

Open a new qualifying account between 17 September and 9 December 2026, and start a switch through the Current Account Switch Service (CASS) by 9 December 2026. You don't have to start the switch on the day you open the account, as long as it starts by that date. It must be a full switch of an account held with another bank: CASS moves all your incoming and outgoing payments and closes the old account.

The switch must bring at least three active Direct Debits. Lloyds counts a Direct Debit as active if it has been paid to the company collecting it in the last 13 months, at any frequency, from weekly to yearly. One set up recently whose first payment hasn't been taken yet is not active. Direct Debits set up after the switch has started don't count, and nor do standing orders, recurring card payments or subscriptions.

If you meet every condition, Lloyds pays the £200 into the new account as a cash credit within 14 working days of the switch starting. There is no pay-in or card-spending condition for the bonus itself, although your chosen account may have its own monthly fee.

You can't get it if you open a Student, Smart Start, Under 19s, Basic, Classic, Silver or Platinum account (the versions without "Club"), if you switch from a Halifax or Bank of Scotland current account, if you change an existing Lloyds account into a qualifying one instead of opening a new one, if you have had a switching offer from Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland since 1 January 2023 (on a joint account, if either of you has), or if your old bank isn't part of CASS. It is one offer per customer and one payment per joint account, and Lloyds can withdraw the offer at any time without notice.

How the £200 switch bonus pays out: 1, open a new Club Lloyds, Club Lloyds Silver, Club Lloyds Platinum or Lloyds Premier account between 17 September and 9 December 2026; 2, start a full CASS switch by 9 December 2026; 3, bring at least 3 active Direct Debits, each paid in the last 13 months; 4, the switch completes on working day 7 and the old account closes; 5, £200 is paid as a cash credit within 14 working days of the switch starting. Not eligible if you switch from Halifax or Bank of Scotland, or have had a switching offer from Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland since 1 January 2023.

How the switch itself works

CASS takes seven working days and you choose the switch date, so you can keep using your old account until then. Lloyds contacts your old bank on day one, moves your Direct Debits, standing orders and incoming payments over the next few days, and on day seven transfers your balance and closes the old account. Payments that still go to the old account are redirected, and Lloyds gives the sender your new details. Under the Current Account Switch Guarantee, if anything goes wrong Lloyds refunds any interest and charges on either account.

Some things don't move. Regular payments set up with your old debit card number, such as many subscriptions, need updating with each company. Remove the old card from Apple Pay or Google Pay and add the new one. An arranged overdraft doesn't transfer, your statements and transaction history stay behind (download them first), and permissions you gave third-party apps through Open Banking have to be set up again with your new details.

If your old account is overdrawn, Lloyds shows the largest arranged overdraft it can offer before you finish the switch request. If that doesn't cover what you owe, you need to arrange to pay the rest to your old bank. If you choose to clear the old overdraft as part of the switch, make sure the new account has enough in it by day seven.

Silver and Platinum: is the insurance worth it?

Club Lloyds Silver adds European family travel insurance, AA Breakdown Family Cover with Roadside Assistance, and mobile phone insurance. Club Lloyds Platinum has worldwide family travel insurance, AA Roadside Assistance plus At Home and National Recovery, and the same phone insurance. The breakdown cover follows you and eligible family members rather than a car, and only works in the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man.

The travel cover is for trips of up to 31 days in a row (winter sports up to 31 days a year), with emergency medical cover up to £10 million, cancellation up to £5,000 and a £75 excess per adult per incident. On Silver it stops at the account holder's 65th birthday, and on Platinum at the 80th. Medical conditions not on the insurer's "No Screen" list must be declared and may cost an extra premium, and you must be a UK resident registered with a UK doctor, starting and ending trips in the UK. The phone insurance covers one phone on a sole account (two on a joint account) up to £2,000, with a £100 excess and no more than two successful claims in 12 months.

Lloyds values Silver's insurance at £318 a year (£157 travel, £59 breakdown, £102 phone) and Platinum's at £682 (£513 travel, £67 breakdown, £102 phone), based on average quotes researched by Consumer Intelligence in June 2026. Against fees of £138 and £270 that looks good, but only if you would otherwise buy all three covers and the age limits and medical rules suit you. Both the travel and phone policies change from 1 December 2026, and Lloyds asks you to read its Guide to Changes when you apply.

Fees and catches

The fees are the main catch: £5 a month on Club Lloyds in any month you pay in less than £2,000, and £11.50 or £22.50 a month on Silver or Platinum whatever you pay in. On Premier, the £15 fee comes back only in months you meet the £5,000 or £100,000 test. Strictly, Lloyds refunds the following month's fee when you meet the test in a calendar month.

All four accounts give the first £100 of an arranged overdraft interest-free. After that the representative rate is 29.9% EAR variable, and Lloyds sets your own rate from how you manage your accounts and your credit file. The representative APR, which includes the monthly fee and assumes £1,200 borrowed, is 33.20% on Club Lloyds, 46.33% on Premier, 48.38% on Silver and 64.07% on Platinum. Lloyds' example: borrowing £500 for 30 days costs £8.50 on these accounts, against £10.73 on Classic, which has no interest-free amount. If there isn't enough money for a payment, Lloyds may let you borrow through an unarranged overdraft, with no interest or fees, or refuse the payment; missed payments and unarranged borrowing can harm your credit score. Overdrafts are subject to approval and repayable on demand.

Smaller things to watch: the interest stops in any month with fewer than two monthly Direct Debits going out; the Lifestyle Benefit is cancelled if you downgrade; and the Club savings accounts are only open to people with a qualifying current account, so check what happens to them before you change account.

What customers complain about

On 11 October 2026 the Lloyds Mobile Banking app was rated 4.8 from 2,625,247 ratings on the App Store and 4.5 from about 394,000 reviews on Google Play. Lloyds Bank's Trustpilot profile scored 4.0 from 13,131 reviews, but the reviews are split: 48% five-star and 46% one-star. All of these cover Lloyds as a whole, not just these accounts.

The low-rated reviews repeat a few themes: slow logins and the app hanging, outages reported as "technical difficulties", adverts on the summary screen and repeated prompts to rate the app, payments blocked by fraud checks and slow disputes, long phone queues and weak chat support out of hours, and errors when opening a joint account in the app. Some reviewers also say Halifax customers are being moved onto the Lloyds app; Lloyds hasn't confirmed this on the pages we read.

Applying, switching in and leaving

You need to be 18 or over and live in the UK, and opening is subject to Lloyds' assessment of your circumstances. The pages we read don't say whether Lloyds uses a hard or soft credit search for the account, so assume it may appear on your credit file. If you are asked during the application, choose to switch; otherwise you can start the switch in the app or online banking once the account is open.

Already bank with Lloyds? You still qualify if you open a new qualifying account and switch in an account from another bank. Open the new account first, then in the app go to Apply, then Current accounts, then "Switch to an existing account" (you can also do it in online banking). Changing your current Lloyds account into a Club account doesn't count.

For a joint account opened online, both of you need to log in to the app or online banking, and you can apply in the app if you both already bank with Lloyds; otherwise apply on the website. If either of you has had a Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland switching offer since 1 January 2023, the joint account won't get the bonus.

The offer terms we read set no minimum time you must keep the account and say nothing about taking the £200 back, but check the live terms before you apply. If you later downgrade to a free account to avoid the fee, you lose the Lifestyle Benefit, and you can switch away again with CASS like any other bank.

Who should get it, and who should skip it

Consider it if you haven't had a switch bonus from Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland since 2023, your current account is with another bank and has at least three Direct Debits paid in the last 13 months, and you can pay in £2,000 a month. It suits people who travel and want a high-street debit card with no Lloyds fees abroad, or who will use the 6.25% Monthly Saver. Silver or Platinum make sense only if you would buy the same travel, breakdown and phone cover anyway and fit the age and medical rules.

Skip it if you bank with Halifax or Bank of Scotland now, or had a bonus from any of the three since 1 January 2023, because you won't get the £200. Skip it too if you don't want to close your current account, if your Direct Debits are new or are really card payments or standing orders, or if you would pay a monthly fee for perks you won't use.

FAQ

Which Lloyds accounts get the £200?
A new Club Lloyds, Club Lloyds Silver, Club Lloyds Platinum or Lloyds Premier account. The plain Silver and Platinum accounts, Classic, Student, Smart Start, Under 19s and Basic accounts don't qualify.
When will I get the £200?
Within 14 working days of your switch starting, paid into the new account as a cash credit. The switch itself takes seven working days.
What counts as an active Direct Debit?
One that has been paid to the company collecting it in the last 13 months, weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly. New Direct Debits that haven't been paid yet, ones set up after the switch starts, standing orders, recurring card payments and subscriptions don't count. You need at least three.
Can I get it if I already bank with Lloyds?
Yes, if you open a new qualifying account and switch in an account from another bank with CASS, and haven't had a switching offer from Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland since 1 January 2023. Changing your existing Lloyds account doesn't count.
I've had a Halifax or Bank of Scotland switch bonus. Can I still get it?
Not if you received it on or after 1 January 2023. You also can't qualify by switching from a Halifax or Bank of Scotland current account.
Do I have to pay in £2,000 a month?
Not for the bonus. On Club Lloyds, £2,000 a month gets the £5 monthly fee refunded; without it you pay £60 a year. Silver and Platinum charge £11.50 or £22.50 a month on top, which is never refunded.
Can I switch to a joint account?
Yes, but it gets one payment, and no bonus at all if either of you has had a Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland switching offer since 1 January 2023. To open it online, you both need to log in to the app or online banking.
Does Club Lloyds charge fees abroad?
Lloyds charges no fees on Club, Club Silver, Club Platinum or Premier debit cards for spending in foreign currencies or cash withdrawals. Pay in the local currency: if you choose pounds abroad, the provider of that conversion may still charge you.
