Google Fi Review: US Plans, the US$60 Credit and Who Can Sign Up
A review of Google Fi's US phone plans, international data, device features, referral-credit rules and the US residency limits that rule out most UK readers.
Last updated 14 October 2026

Best for
US residents who meet Fi's eligibility and use requirements and want to compare multi-line plans, connected devices and international data.
Google Fi combines US phone service with different levels of hotspot, connected-device and international features, but it is intended for US residents. Most UK and Hong Kong residents cannot sign up, and a short trip to the US does not meet the residency rules. The US$60 referral benefit is Fi service credit, not cash. You must activate an eligible full-service plan within 30 days of checkout, keep it active for 30 consecutive days and pay the first bill in full. Confirm that you qualify before treating the referral as a real saving.
Pros
- Several plan tiers for US calls, hotspot and international use
- Some plans connect tablets, laptops and select smartwatches

- Eligible referred customers can receive US$60 in Fi service credit
- Multi-line plans can reduce the per-line price
Watch-outs
- US residency and primary-use requirements exclude most UK and HK readers
- The referral credit requires a qualifying activation and 30 days of paid service
- Credit is not cash and cannot pay for a phone
- Long-term use outside the US can suspend roaming data
- Monthly prices exclude taxes and government fees

Who can sign up
Google Fi Wireless is a US phone service. Applicants must be at least 18 and meet Google's US residency, account and primary-use requirements, including US activation and a physical primary-use address. A UK resident visiting the US should not assume that the trip makes them eligible.
The terms also expect the service to be used primarily in the US. International roaming is a plan feature for eligible travel, not permission to use Fi as a permanent UK SIM.
Plan prices and what they include
On 14 October 2026, Google Fi's official page listed two-line monthly prices of US$60 for Unlimited Essentials, US$80 for Unlimited Standard and US$110 for Unlimited Premium. Flexible was US$35 plus US$10 per GB. Taxes and government fees are extra; per-line pricing changes with group size.
The plans differ in high-speed data, hotspot, international service and connected-device features. 'Unlimited' does not mean unlimited high-speed tethering. Compare the data thresholds, reduced speeds after the threshold and the destinations that matter to you.
International data and long stays abroad
International data differs by plan. Unlimited Premium includes high-speed data in more than 200 destinations; other plans have different country, calling and data limits. Check Google's destination list and your selected plan before travelling.
Fi's terms require primary use in the US. A long stay abroad may cause international data roaming to be suspended. A holiday and living overseas are different use cases, so do not plan on permanent roaming without checking the current terms.
The US$60 referral credit
Use the GetQuids invite link and code M0APFR at checkout. The referred customer must activate an eligible full-service phone plan within 30 days of checkout; data-only SIMs and new members added to an existing group plan are excluded. Keep service active for 30 consecutive days and pay the first bill in full.
The US$60 benefit is credit towards Google Fi service, not cash and not a phone purchase discount. Google says the referrer may also receive Fi credit. Keep the activation date and first-bill payment confirmation in case you need to ask about tracking.
Devices, hotspot and extras
Plan features can include hotspot, connectivity for select smartwatches, tablets and laptops, but support depends on the plan and device. Check Google's device compatibility list for the exact phone model before switching.
A phone purchase and a Fi plan are separate transactions. Referral service credit cannot be used to buy a handset. Confirm that an unlocked device can activate before moving your number or relying on eSIM.
Bills and account management
Google Fi bills through a Google account. Check taxes, government fees, multi-line members and any device payments separately. Before cancelling or changing a plan, review the current billing cycle so you do not mistake service credit for a refundable balance.
Prices and referral terms can change. Save the offer and eligibility wording shown at checkout, along with your activation date and payment records.
Who should consider Fi
Only people who meet the US residency and primary-use rules and can activate in the US should compare Fi. The right tier depends on household line count, connected devices and travel destinations.
Most UK and Hong Kong residents without a US home address should skip it. The US$60 credit does not relax eligibility requirements.
FAQ

- What do I need to do to qualify?
- Activate an eligible full-service plan within 30 days of checkout, keep service active for 30 consecutive days and pay the first bill in full. Data-only SIMs and new members added to an existing group plan do not qualify.
